Nanci Burns, MSW, RSW

Nanci Burns worked at the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board (OCDSB) for 25 years as both a social worker and prevention specialist. She has been instrumental in the development of the Safe and Caring Schools Initiative and is a strong advocate in developing social skills in children as part of their education. Before coming to Ottawa, Nanci worked primarily in the area of violence prevention. She helped establish the National Clearinghouse on Family Violence/Health Canada and then spent several years at the Family Research Laboratory at the University of New Hampshire. While there, she co-authored Nursery Crimes, a book about sexual abuse in day care.

Nancy Rubenstein, ECE

Nancy Rubenstein is an ECE and certified Resource Teacher with over 30 years of experience working with children and families in various programs - a Headstart nursery school, a cooperative nursery school, group daycare centres, school-based empathy programs and LINC programs.  Working with families from around the world, she has gained insight into the interplay of social expectations and the child's innate temperament.  Nancy holds a BA Degree from Vassar College.
